11/20/2009
For the second straight year a Florida State athlete is a semifinalist for a Rhodes Scholarship.
Erin Simmons, who throws the hammer and javelin for Florida State's national powerhouse track team, will interview Saturday in Birmingham, Ala., for the two-year scholarship at the University of Oxford. She is also a candidate for a Fulbright Scholarship.
Simmons, a marine biologist from Argyle, Texas, is currently pursuing a master's degree in the university's Marine certificate program.
Myron Rolle, a three-year starter on the Seminole football team, won a Rhodes scholarship last year and shot putter Garrett Johnson from Tampa won the coveted scholarship in 2006.
