Dinner Tonight: Green Chile Swiss Steak

This twist on Swiss steak is simple, spicy and slow. In the morning, toss all ingredients into the slow-cooker; dinner is ready when you walk in that night. Serve with warm tortillas, sour cream and salsa.

SLOW-COOKER GREEN CHILE SWISS STEAK

2 teaspoons vegetable oil
1 ( 8-ounce) boneless beef round steak, well trimmed, cut into two serving-size pieces
2 tablespoons taco seasoning mix (from 1-ounce package)
1 small onion, sliced
¼ cup chopped green chiles (from 4.5-ounce can)
2 tablespoons chili sauce

Green Chile Swiss Steak is a simple way to have dinner ready when you come home from work. Add Spanish rice plus sour cream and red pepper strips for garnish.

Spray 1 1/2 quart slow-cooker with cooking spray. In a 10-inch skillet, heat oil over medium-high heat. Add beef; cook 4 to 5 minutes or until browned on both sides. Sprinkle both sides of steak with 1 tablespoon of the taco seasoning mix.

In a small bowl, mix remaining 1 tablespoon taco seasoning mix with remaining ingredients. Place 1 steak in bottom of slow cooker. Cover with half of the salsa mixture. Repeat with remaining steak and salsa mixture. Cover; cook on low heat setting 8 to 9 hours. Serves 2.
