Computer vendor shot dead at sidewalk sale in downtown Dallas
12:46 PM CDT on Saturday, July 4, 2009
A computer vendor was shot to death early Saturday when a gunman fired into a sidewalk computer sale in downtown Dallas, police said.
Herbert Orsburn, 51, of Lewisville was shot about 2:30 a.m. when multiple shots were fired from a car in the 1600 block of Field Street, under Woodall Rodgers Freeway.
One of the rounds, apparently shot at random, hit Orsburn in the head. He was taken to Parkland Memorial Hospital, where he died.
Police are looking for the driver of a dark-colored vehicle with stripes along the bottom of the doors. Anyone with information is asked to call Dallas police at 214-671-3661.
The victim was taking part in the First Saturday event, where computer vendors ply their wares overnight under a bridge in the West End.
The sale started as a once-a-month swap meet for ham radio enthusiasts in 1969 but has evolved over the years, adding PC users and another monthly meeting, on the third Saturday of each month.
