The Collin County health department received an additional 8,600 doses of the swine flu vaccine Friday, making more than 15,000 doses available.

They will be available starting Saturday at Tom Thumb stores, Walgreen pharmacies, PrimaCare at 3304 Alma Drive in Plano, PrimaCare at 1920 W. Eldorado Parkway in McKinney, Express Health at 1505 HarrounÖ St. in McKinney and Texas Star Pharmacy at 3033 W. Parker Road in Plano.

The H1N1 vaccines are being reserved for people most at risk. That means pregnant women, people between 6 months and 24 years of age, people from 25 to 64 who have a chronic health condition, people who live with or care for children younger than 6 months of age, and emergency medical personnel.

County officials have been upset that the Texas Department of State Health Services didn’t send more doses sooner. Collin County Health Care Services has requested 42,550 doses from the state and now has received 15,600.

For updates on the H1N1 vaccine availability, call 211 or 972-548-5500Ö. People may also visit www.texasflu.org.
