3 killed, 3 injured in head-on crash outside Wylie
09:31 AM CST on Saturday, November 21, 2009
A head-on collision Friday morning south of Lavon Lake killed three people and left a 4-year-old girl, among others, injured.
"The little girl lost her mom and her grandparents," said Officer Lonny Haschel, a Texas Highway Patrol spokesman.
The accident happened at 10:07 a.m. on Highway 205, just east of Highway 78, about a mile outside Wylie.
A white Hyundai SUV was traveling north in rainy weather when it possibly hydroplaned and crossed the center line, hitting a white Honda Passport minivan, Haschel said.
The Honda's driver, 42-year-old Andrea Dunn of Nevada, Texas, was killed. Also dead were John Mcilvain, 76, and Margaret Mcilvain, 74, also of Nevada.
The girl was taken to Children's Medical Center Dallas with nonlife-threatening injuries.
All who died were wearing seat belts.
"Some crashes are not survivable," Haschel said. "The impact was so severe on this crash that the engine block for that Hyundai was taken completely away from the car and it was laying in the road."
The two people traveling in the Hyundai – Tommie Chambers, 35, and Ariel Langford, 15, both of Wylie – were taken to Plano Medical Center with nonlife-threatening injuries.
Both had "broken bones and such, but both of them are going to be OK," Haschel said.
The highway was closed until about 3 p.m.
No charges were filed Friday and the crash was still under investigation.
