Interstate 35E to be shut down for DART construction
12:00 AM CST on Friday, November 6, 2009
All northbound lanes of Interstate 35E will be closed Sunday night for construction related to Dallas Area Rapid Transit's Orange Line. The southbound lanes will close Monday night.
The closures will affect the stretch of I-35E between Regal Row and Loop 12.
The Texas Department of Transportation said the northbound lanes will be shut from 9 p.m. Sunday until 5 a.m. Monday. Then, the southbound lanes will close from 9 p.m. Monday through 5 a.m. Tuesday.
The closures are necessary so that bridge girders can be placed over the highway. Motorists will be routed around the closures, but transportation officials said people who don't need to be in the area should avoid it.
DART is constructing its Orange Line to north Irving and Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport.
Meanwhile, eastbound lanes of the Woodall Rodgers Freeway in downtown Dallas will be closed Saturday. No more than two lanes will be closed at any one time, leaving at least two lanes open, TxDOT said.
The closings will begin at 5 a.m. and end by 8 p.m.
Lanes will be closed from Field Street to just east of Pearl Street for work related to the Woodall Rodgers deck park, which is scheduled to open in early 2012.
