carnival is Saturday
Robert E. Lee Elementary PTA will have its annual fall carnival from 1 to 5 p.m. Saturday at the school, 2911 Delmar Ave., in East Dallas. The event highlights will include bounce houses, a Silly String zone, candy apples, a can-smash, pumpkin decorating, a cakewalk and raffles. Proceeds will go toward the PTA's goals to offer teacher materials, a school marquee, student incentives and educational programs. Call 972-749-7400.
Providence Christian School of Texas hosts its open house for parents of prospective students age 4 through eighth grade from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday at the school, 5002 W. Lovers Lane. The public is invited. 469-341-4031 or www.pcstx.org.
races for Saturday
Lakehill Preparatory School's 11th annual Trek for Tech 1-mile fun run and registered 5K chip-timed race will be Saturday The event will begin and end at Lakehill's main campus, 2720 Hillside Drive. The fun run will begin at 8 a.m., and the 5K at 8:30 a.m.
Register at getmeregistered.com/TrekForTech through noon Tuesday or at the event. Registration is $20 in advance and $25 at the event.
Proceeds will be used for technology enhancements and the Alice and Erle Nye Family Environmental Science Center.
University of Texas at Dallas Ackerman Center for Holocaust Studies presents Dr. David Patterson in two lectures.
Patterson's discussion of "The Nazi Assault on the Holy Within the Human" begins with a reception at the University of Texas Dallas Conference Center, 800 W. Campbell Road, followed by the lecture at 4:45 p.m.

Collin College's Collin Higher Education Center will host a free higher education information session for the public from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Spring Creek campus, 2800 E. Spring Creek Parkway.

Kevin Moriarty, artistic director of the Dallas Theater Center, presents "Theater and Democracy: From Ancient Greece to 21st-Century Dallas" at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday.
