Two vying to become voice of Dallas Mavericks
12:00 AM CST on Thursday, November 5, 2009
Michael Taylor and Sean Heath, both of whom possess booming voices, will have to wait a little longer to see which of them will become the new public address system announcer for the Dallas Mavericks. Gina Calvert, a Mavericks spokeswoman, said Wednesday that Taylor and Heath will take turns as PA announcer for the next 10 games at American Airlines Center. The extra time will allow team owner Mark Cuban and other Mavs execs to gather feedback from fans.

EXHAUSTIVE SEARCH: Taylor and Heath became the finalists after team officials listened to more than 90 candidates try out for the job in October. The position came open after "Humble" Billy Hayes resigned for family reasons after nine years in the job.
JOB DESCRIPTION: The PA announcer sits courtside and is responsible for injecting a little excitement into the game at the right moments. He also promotes the players and concession products and engages in verbal cheerleading from time to time.
