15-year-old girl killed in collision with train near Fort Worth
04:56 AM CDT on Monday, May 12, 2008
Residents of a small Johnson County community were grieving Sunday after a Chicago-bound Amtrak train hit an SUV, killing a 15-year-old Rio Vista girl.
Katelan Bailey Baker was pronounced dead at the scene, said Rio Vista Police Chief Steve Johnson.
The accident happened about 1:20 p.m. Sunday as the Amtrak train rolled through town at about 60 mph, police said.
The preliminary investigation indicates that Katelan's 2003 Chevy Trailblazer had gone around the crossing arms when it was struck, Chief Johnson said.
Katelan had a hardship driver's license, Chief Johnson said.
Rio Vista is a town of less than 1,000 residents in far southern Johnson County.
