Prince of Peace Christian School teacher Rick Knotts was named 2009 Outstanding Lutheran Educator, Texas District, by the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod. Knotts has taught at Prince of Peace for six years. He lives in Frisco with his wife, Pamela, and twin sons.
All Cedar Hill ISD Fine Arts programs will be showcased at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Meyerson Symphony Center, 2301 Flora St. in Dallas. Lobby performances will start at 6 p.m. Tickets are $5 at the door. Visit www.chisd.com.
Four schools in the Cedar Hill school district were recognized in the 2009 Just for Kids Campaign for Higher Performing Schools in Texas. They are High Pointe and Lake Ridge Elementary schools, Ninth Grade Center and West Intermediate School.

The candidate filing dates for the DeSoto ISD board will be Monday through March 8. Places 1, 2 and 5 are up for election. Candidate packets are available at the Instructional Support Education Center, 200 E. Belt Line Road.
The Dallas County Department of Health will provide free H1N1 influence vaccines to DeSoto ISD students from Thursday through Feb. 26.

Nimitz High School's Academic Decathlon team won its 20th Regional Academic Decathlon Championship in 23 years and its fifth consecutive one. Team members are Linda Dao, Joel Garcia, Ana Ibanez, Edgar Ibarra, David Orozco, Chris Rohrs, Genesis Sanchez and Maggie Stiggleman. Gregory Jackson is the team's coach.
To help spread the word about the 2010 census, Irving is sponsoring a census awareness poster competition. Students in kindergarten through grade 12 who live or attend school in Irving are invited to create a poster that encourages residents to fill out the 2010 census.

The Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra will perform a community concert at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Keller High School, 601 N. Pate Orr Road. Tickets are $5. Call 817-743-4000.

Seven Dallas County Community College District students received the 2010 Max and Rosa Goldblatt Endowment Awards in Community Service.
They are Ina Bostick of Farmers Branch, Brookhaven College; Emmanuel Faz of Dallas, Mountain View College; Sadia Gulzar of DeSoto, El Centro College; Edwin Hampton of DeSoto, Cedar Valley College; Wendy Jacobson of Balch Springs, Eastfield College; Sarah Perez of Flower Mound, North Lake College; and Dung Tran of Garland, Richland College.
North Lake College in Irving hopes to win its third title in the Waste Minimization division of RecycleMania, a national recycling competition. Cedar Valley College and Richland College are also participating in the contest. Recycling efforts will be measured through March 27 and weekly standings are posted at www.recyclemaniacs.org.
Texas Woman's University presents The Meeting at 7 p.m. Tuesday in the Redbud Theater in Hubbard Hall, 301 Administration Drive. The Meeting is a one-act play about a secret meeting between Malcolm X and Martin Luther King Jr. Tickets cost $5 at the door; free for students. 940-898-3609.
A lecture on the civil rights decision Brown vs. Board of Education will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the Margo Jones Performance Hall. Free.
An exhibit, "Pioneers in Modernism," runs through Feb. 28 in the Gough Gallery at the Center for the Visual Arts, 400 E. Hickory St. in Denton. The exhibit features work by eight TWU faculty members.
"A Walk through Africa" will run through Feb. 25 in the Blagg-Huey Library on the Denton campus.
