Man's fatal shooting in car south of White Rock Lake investigated
12:00 AM CST on Tuesday, February 9, 2010
Dallas police detectives spent Monday investigating a fatal early morning shooting near a sports bar just south of White Rock Lake.
The victim, 18-year-old Andres Martinez, was taken to Baylor University Medical Center, where he died.
Investigators said he was a passenger in a friend's car, leaving the OK Sports Bar and Grill at 7315 Gaston Ave. When the car Martinez was in stopped at a red light about 2 a.m. at Gaston and Grand Avenue, another vehicle pulled up next to the car. Someone in that second vehicle started shooting.
Martinez was the only person wounded.
"Evidently, there was an argument of some sort that occurred in the club," homicide Sgt. Bruce McDonald said, "and this was kind of an overflow of that."
McDonald said it wasn't clear exactly what the altercation was about, but it did not appear Martinez was directly involved.
It was "something that seemed to be pretty minor," McDonald said. "Someone looking at somebody wrong, that type of deal."
Investigators did not release information about the suspect's vehicle but said they do have leads in the case.
'We've got some information that we're working on right now," McDonald said.
Staff writer Steven R. Thompson contributed to this report.
