Suspect killed by trooper near Greenville
09:55 AM CDT on Monday, May 5, 2008
GREENVILLE — A state trooper fatally shot the passenger of an 18-wheeler during a traffic stop Sunday, a spokeswoman for the Texas Department of Public Safety said.
The incident occurred about 10:30 p.m. along Interstate 30 just east of Greenville, said DPS spokeswoman Tela Mange.
The trooper had stopped the 18-wheeler and asked the driver whether there were any passengers in the vehicle. Mange said the driver was "evasive."
The trooper found a passenger, who approached him with a knife, and fired his weapon, she said.
Mange said the driver was taken into custody but it was unclear what criminal charges the driver may face.
