Fire destroys Plano apartment clubhouse
09:31 AM CDT on Thursday, May 8, 2008
PLANO — Plano firefighters responded to an early morning blaze at an apartment clubhouse Thursday morning.
The incident was reported about 5:40 a.m. in the 1500 block of Preston Road. Firefighters arrived at the scene and searched the building to make sure it was empty, a fire official said.
Resident Blake Hardgrove, 25, said he was awakened by sirens this morning and when he looked out his window he saw the clubhouse next door was on fire.
"I saw the last of the flames," he said. "It was close. It could have moved over. I got dressed as quick as I could and came outside."
Manju Slvakumar, 27, said she and her husband and five-year-old son were sleeping when they were woken by noise outside. Flames were shooting 10 feet out of the building next door.
"We are new to this place and we were scared," she said. "The firefighters really helped us. They did a good job."
The cause was under investigation. No injuries were reported.
