ALLEN — The state is considering pulling thousands of textbooks from schools after an Allen High School class got an eyeful while studying from their German class textbook.

Joshua Sabik said students discovered some revealing images on the covers of adult magazines that can be seen in a photo that's part of Deutsch Aktuell.

"We were actually doing a class reading and a few students noticed it and started giggling, and the teacher caught on and the whole class knew," Sabik said. "It was the talk of the class for about a week."

Taking a close look at the photo of a newsstand, adult magazines can be seen clearly enough to make out their titles.

"Oh, it was obvious," said Desiree Sabik, Joshua's mother. "Naked women, breasts — right out there in your face."

Deutsch Aktuell is in schools across the country. More than 3,000 of the books are used in advanced German classes across Texas, including many North Texas school districts.

"It's shocking," Mrs. Sabik said. "And you think they're really careful about what they put in that textbook ... you just don't suspect that's going to be in there."

Her son said he found the photo humorous.

Meanwhile, the publisher, Minnesota based EMC Paradigm Publishing. said it is looking into the issue and did not make any further comments.

Students have been using the book since the fall of 2005. Texas spent more than one year fact-checking the text.

Education leaders said they don't know how the photo slipped through the cracks. The state said they may remove the books from classes or cover the photos with a sticker.

"It's inappropriate for a high school level class," said Tim Carroll, with the Allen Independent School District. "It would be unlikely we would use that same textbook."

The Plano Independent School District said it intends to remove the page.
