MELISSA — A Collin County manhunt ended Tuesday when a man wanted on drug charges was arrested in Melissa.

A police officer found Bobby Lynn Haliburton, 29, behind a house in a residential area shortly before noon, Melissa Police Chief Duane Smith said. Haliburton surrendered without incident.

Authorities began chasing Haliburton about 3:30 p.m. Monday after he refused to be taken into custody in Fannin County, police said.

When troopers tried to puncture his tires by laying spikes along Highway 75 near FM 1417 in Sherman, Haliburton drove toward a trooper, who fired on the vehicle.

He abandoned his vehicle in a field north of McKinney and fled from police who searched for him with bloodhounds until about 9:30 p.m.

Chief Smith said a passerby contacted Melissa police on Tuesday morning after noticing a shirtless man walking near Highway 75.

Melissa police found Haliburton hiding behind a tool shed, Sgt. Kyle Babcock said.

“As soon as I saw him, and he saw me see him, he started coming out and gave up,” Sgt. Babcock said. “He was only wearing shorts.”

Melissa is located seven miles northeast of McKinney.
