Students running to raise money for kidney patient
08:33 PM CDT on Wednesday, May 14, 2008
Around 1,000 students at McCullock Intermediate School are Running for Ryan, an 11-year-old who cannot run for himself.
"It's been a trying process, you know, from when Ryan was diagnosed last summer," said Scott Michael, Ryan’s father.
Ryan has kidney failure, and now the entire school wants to do its part. They came together to raise money to give to Ryan’s family.
His medical bills are in the thousands.
"I'm just thankful for my community, and for God, and just really thankful," said Ryan Michael.
And this is just one of many fundraisers to show their love.
"We've been selling wrist bands, and earning a lot of money for Ryan, and we've earned $8,145. So I am really grateful for the people who have been helping us out," said Abby Michael, Ryan’s sister.
It seems every child is doing their part, even something as simple as buying a water bottle helps. And the mascot is, of course, sticking around to root for Ryan's cause. The goal is to raise $100,000.
