DALLAS — An undercover sting resulted in the overnight arrest of a Dallas police officer.

Police said Sr. Cpl. Min Tran blackmailed a Vietnamese family for money in exchange for not reporting possible gambling law violations.

"We did have officers take down another officer because of course he could be armed," said

The arrest came a day after a woman went to the Dallas Police Department. Authorities said the woman told them that Tran had been blackmailing her since April, which was when she said he entered her Dallas business and flashed his badge.

In a court document obtained by the Dallas Morning News, Tran allegedly ordered her to "pay him in exchange for protection and to keep her out of jail." He allegedly demanded that she pay him $400 every week. Soon after, Tran told her that the payment would be increased to $500 per week, the documents said.

It was also reported that as she began to avoid Tran's call, he then started confronting her employees, which made her "extremely fearful for her safety."

"We can't tolerate that kind of behavior on the Dallas Police Department,"

Police said they busted Tran after they had the woman meet Tran in a parking lot off Lakeland Drive. During the meeting, she offered to pay him the $1,100 he was demanding. Authorities said the conversation was recorded and the money was marked.

Officers moved in when Tran allegedly took the money.

Tran faces a felony bribery charge.

The former computer executive has been with the department since 2001. He was placed on administrative leave pending an investigation by the department's Internal Affairs division.
