06:12 PM CDT on Sunday, July 27, 2008
DALLAS — One of the victims of the May 16 natural gas line explosion in McKinney has passed away.
Nancy Foster, 77, died Sunday morning at Parkland Memorial Hospital in Dallas after fighting for her life for more than two months. Doctors said half her body had been severely burned in the blast. Foster's family did not want to talk on Sunday, but they had been praying for her recovery.
Nancy Foster was well known in her community. She was a breast cancer and brain tumor survivor and also served as the head usher at Bethlehem Christian Church in McKinney.
Foster had lived in the house that was destroyed in the explosion for more than 50 years.
It blew up after a gas leak on Fenet Street. Two other people were also injured, and they are still recovering from their burns.
Investigators turned over their case to the Collin County District Attorney's office. The DA will determine whether Atmos Energy and its contractor, MJ Sheridan, should face criminal charges in connection with the explosion.
