Dogs maul child, bite woman in Mesquite
10:31 PM CDT on Monday, October 6, 2008
MESQUITE - Police caught three dogs they believe attacked an eight-year-old girl and her Godmother late Monday afternoon in a rural area of Mesquite.
As the young girl knocked on the door of her Godmother's home, the woman's pit bull mix and two large, mixed breed dogs jumped and attacked the child. Authorities said the Godmother was also bit after she came to the rescue of the young girl in the midst of the attack.
The child suffered puncture wounds to the chest, right arm and her leg. She was taken by CareFlite to Children's Medical Center at Dallas. The grandmother was taken to a nearby hospital by an ambulance with non-life-threatening injuries.
The child is now in recovery after undergoing surgery.
Editor's Note: Earlier in the day police reported the older victim was the child's grandmother and the child was attacked while riding her bicycle.
