FORT WORTH - Families moved to a North Texas neighborhood for its highly-rated elementary school, only to discover their children may be forced to a lower-rated school, further away.

Parents came to the Eagle Mountain Saginaw ISD board meeting last night to try to put a stop to the plan.

The Lee family moved to Texas last year.

They have seven children, so instead of looking for the perfect house, they wanted the perfect school.

But less than a year after moving in, their youngest children may have to move on.

Lorraine and David Lee discovered Greenfield Elementary in Eagle Mountain Saginaw ISD, rated exemplary, and were sold.

"It has no spiders. It looks shiny, clean, my teachers are great," said Ryanne, who is in second grade.

The youngest children Anastasia, Ryanne and Danny thrived at their new school.

"I was very impressed with what I saw, the progress the kids were making there," said David Lee.

Then the family learned that, under a proposed redistricting plan, their children, along with more than 60 others in the neighborhood, would be forced to attend Elkins Elementary, more than two miles away. It's an older facility, with a lower academic rating.

"If they were going from one exemplary school to another exemplary school that would be one thing but they're going from an exemplary school to a school that's not. I have a problem with that," Lee added.

It has been agreed that the children will stay at Greenfield for one more year. Parents are hopeful that after that extension their children will be moved to another campus, Parkview Elementary, which is a newer facility.
