NORTH RICHLAND HILLS — We've all heard of "staycations," but how about a "space-cation"?
You and your kids can go to the moon at a one-of-a-kind space center, and it's right here in North Texas.
The Astronaut Training Center is a 10,000 square-foot facility in the old North Richland Hills Library.
"My dream is to go up in space and walk on the moon," said eight-year-old visitor Maddie Marsh. Until she grows up, this may be the next best thing.
The center gives you a feel of what it's like to train for a trip to space. And — like that historic day 40 years ago — what it's like to walk on the moon.
Besides walking on the moon, you can strap into a reduced gravity trainer to experience one-sixth gravity as you would walking on the moon.
You can also test your piloting skills using the Apollo Lunar Lander Simulator.
The Astronaut Training Center is open every day from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. through the end of August. Tickets cost $17.95; guests who accompany the trainees are charged $5.
