HALTOM CITY — A wrong-way driver was killed after his car plowed into an 18-wheeler on Highway 121 early Friday morning.
It all started around 2 a.m. when Haltom City police got a call that a motorist in a Chevrolet Cavalier sedan was going the wrong way in the southbound lanes near the Loop 820 split.
Officers were traveling parallel to the vehicle, which did initially stop. But when police got out to talk to the driver, he sped away just as a big rig approached and swerved.
The unidentified driver hit the rear axle of the truck and was killed when his car was crushed by the impact.
The driver of the 18-wheeler was not injured.
Traffic on Highway 121 was shut down for about five hours during the cleanup and investigation.
