AUSTIN– A man who spent two months in a coma at an Austin hospital awoke to discover he was a crime victim.
Austin police said Thursday that they're seeking a woman seen on ATM bank surveillance video using his debit card, which was used at least eight times to steal more than $1,300 while he was in a coma. The card was in the man's wallet, which was taken out of a backpack in his room.
EL PASO – An El Paso judge facing federal corruption charges now stands accused by the state of nepotism. State District Judge Manuel Barraza was indicted by a county grand jury along with state District Judge Regina Arditti on charges that they hired each other's relatives.
AUSTIN – Implementing "smart justice" can help ease the criminal case load on prosecutors and keep society safe, Dallas County District Attorney Craig Watkins told the U.S. Sentencing Commission in a public hearing Thursday.
That means using programs for youthful first-time offenders who can work toward getting their charges dismissed or fast-tracking repeat low-level offenders into state jails, said Watkins.
OZARK, Ark. – A police officer who used a stun gun on an unruly 10-year-old girl has been suspended – not for using the Taser but for not having turned on a video camera during the incident – a violation of department procedures.
