Evan Grant's look at Wednesday's MLB playoff series
12:32 PM CDT on Thursday, October 8, 2009

St. Louis' Game 1-2 pitching combo is Chris Carpenter and Adam Wainwright. Cards won all four of their starts vs. Dodgers this season. They had a 1.50 ERA in those four games. If series goes the max, they figure to start four of those. Don't expect it to go the max.
Tweet (prediction): Evan_P_Grant: Wainwright and Carp too sharp. APujols and #Cards pitchers extend #Dodgers streak without a ring to 21 years. Sorry, @TLasorda, out in 4.
When the Rockies won the NL in 2007, they rode a 21-8 finish into the playoffs. They've taken a similar path this year, going 20-11 since Sept. 1. Since the All-Star break, they were a game better (45-29) than the Phillies (45-31). Those who thought the Rockies' amazing 2007 run would end before the World Series were proven to be fools. I don't want to be made a fool of again.
Tweet (prediction): Evan_P_ Grant: The #Phillies should win, but I simply can't pick against #Rockies magic. Colo. in five.
Minnesota ran down the Tigers once before, in 2006, to win the Central and force Detroit into the wild-card bracket. The Tigers went out and shocked the Yankees, while the tired Twins were swept by Oakland. And that was with Johan Santana and Justin Morneau. The former has gone to the New York Mets, and the latter is out with a stress fracture in his back. That's too tough a task when facing the Yankees' $200 million machine.
Tweet (prediction): Evan_P_ Grant: No Morneau=no more season. #Twins out in three. Hey, @ARod, can I get an interview with @TheKateHudson?
