BREAKDOWN

How Rangers hitters fared: Every hitter except Elvis Andrus struck out as the Rangers were one-hit for the second time this season. In both instances, Michael Young had the only hit. The Rangers have been held to two or fewer hits five times this season.

How Rangers pitchers fared: It would be tough to ask for much more from Tommy Hunter, who allowed two runs in 6 1/3 innings in an emergency start for Matt Harrison. Three relievers held the Padres in check.

HIGHLIGHTS

PADRES FOURTH: Scott Hairston homered to left. San Diego 1, Rangers 0

PADRES SIXTH: Everth Cabrera tripled to right. Hairston drove Cabrera in with a single to center. San Diego 2, Rangers 0
