Voters cast ballots yesterday on state contsitutional amendments, bond proposals and other civic matters. Now they can weigh in on a really hot issue: choosing a replacement for "Humble" Billy Hayes as the Dallas Mavericks' public address announcer.

We're conducting an informal poll here, but the Mavericks are taking fans' votes. The Mavs had planned to make a final decision Nov. 4, after finalists Sean Heath and Michael Taylor had each called a home game, but decided instead to postpone the decision until each had called five more games apiece.

Heath and Taylor emerged as finalists from an original field of more than 100 applicants.

The Mavericks held open tryouts at American Airlines Center on Oct. 7. From that large block of auditions, the list was whittled to 10, and their audition videos were posted for fan voting on the Mavericks' Web site.
