Sooners weren't going to let Shipley beat them
Texas sixth-year senior receiver Jordan Shipley, who had 32 catches over the last three games, was held to four receptions for 22 yards by the Oklahoma defense.
Shipley, who entered the game third nationally in punt returns, returned two punts for minus-3 yards Saturday. He had been a key in last year's Red River Rivalry with 11 receptions and a 96-yard kickoff return.
"As a defense, we came in and said nobody needs to get anything on us," defensive back Brian Jackson said. "We feel like we can be the best. Jordan Shipley is a great athlete, as is Colt McCoy, but we came in and did what we needed to do."

Paralyzed DeSoto student inspires Texas
Texas players were moved Friday night by a speech from Corey Borner, the DeSoto student who was paralyzed in spring practice.
Borner told the Longhorns he was going to find a way to walk again, just like they were going to find a way to beat Oklahoma.
The team promised him the game ball, something Sergio Kindle reminded his teammates of Saturday.
"I told them that we can't promise him the game ball and not deliver," Kindle said.

Ex-Lancaster standout Hurst sacks McCoy
Oklahoma freshman cornerback Demontre Hurst of Lancaster didn't take long to make an impact after coming in for starter Brian Jackson early in the second quarter.
Jackson, a DeSoto product, was injured and had to come off the field. Three plays later, Hurst showed his speed on a blitz from the left side. Unblocked, Hurst sacked Texas quarterback Colt McCoy for a 15-yard loss at midfield, keeping the Longhorns from attempting a long field goal. Jackson later returned.

Oklahoma's Reynolds solid in Rivalry return
Oklahoma senior linebacker Ryan Reynolds didn't carry fond memories with him into the Cotton Bowl on Saturday against Texas.
A year ago, the often-injured Reynolds suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee early in the third quarter against the Longhorns and was lost for the season.
But Saturday, he was among the Sooners' top defensive players, finishing with seven tackles and a fumble recovery.
"It was a great feeling," Reynolds said. "Getting hurt last year at the beginning of the half, it's nice to be able to play the whole game. It was a fun game and a great atmosphere."

UT linebackers Kindle, Acho have career days
Texas senior linebacker Sergio Kindle and sophomore linebacker Emmanuel Acho – a pair of Dallas-area products – enjoyed big days Saturday.
Kindle, a projected first-round NFL draft choice out of Woodrow Wilson, had a career-high four tackles for losses, topping the three he logged against Texas A&M last season.
Acho, a former St. Mark's standout, had the first two fumble recoveries of his career in the second quarter.
The first came early in the quarter when OU tailback DeMarco Murray couldn't handle a handoff from quarterback Landry Jones. Acho's second fumble recovery came when OU's Mossis Madu fumbled a kickoff return after Texas cornerback Curtis Brown used his helmet to knock the football from Madu's hands.

Texas' Williams has a sack, interception
Aaron Williams, a sophomore cornerback, did two things Saturday that he hadn't done all season. He recorded a sack and an interception.
The interception came near the eight-minute mark of the fourth quarter. His sack came in the first quarter, and the hit knocked Sooners quarterback Sam Bradford out of the game.
Coach Mack Brown said Williams was on his way to becoming a shutdown cornerback and could already blitz as well as anyone on the team.
"He has a good knack of knowing when to go to the quarterback or pull off if a guy is flaring," Brown said. "He's a very smart football player."

Texas stymies OU rushing attack
Texas entered the game No. 1 in the nation in rush defense, and it showed why Saturday.
The Longhorns held Oklahoma to minus-16 yards rushing. That's the worst rushing game for the Sooners in their 104-game series history against Texas. It's also the second-lowest rushing total in OU history (the Sooners had minus-23 yards rushing against Alabama in 2002).
Chris Brown led OU in rushing with 23 yards on 12 carries, but Texas held DeMarco Murray to minus-3 yards on five attempts.
"Running the ball was a little more physical. There were times the running backs missed a hole and wanted to pace themselves," Murray said. "Then, there were times they got the best of us."

Points hard to come by for Texas, Oklahoma
In the last four Red River Rivalry games before Saturday, Texas and Oklahoma had combined to score an average of 56 points a game.
But Saturday, Texas and Oklahoma combined to score fewer than 30 points for the third time since 1995 and the 17th time since 1960.

Sooners' Jones has seen this before
After Sam Bradford left Oklahoma's game against BYU with an injury, backup quarterback Landry Jones was 6-for-12 for 51 yards.
Saturday, Jones was 24-of-43 passing for 250 yards and a touchdown after Bradford went down.
"It feels kind of like the BYU game," Jones said. "It feels terrible right now."

Texas gets run game going in second half
Unlike Oklahoma, Texas solved its early problems with the run. After running for 40 yards on 16 carries in the first half, the Longhorns finished with 142 yards rushing on 40 carries.
"I felt like if we could just hang in there with the run game – sometimes it was not going to be pretty – and make them play some assignment football, then the passing game protection would get better," said Texas offensive coordinator Greg Davis.
