Red River Rivalry: The '20s

Texas: 3 wins, Oklahoma: 0 wins

Compiled by DallasNews.com

In 1929, the series moved to Dallas' Fair Park as part of the Texas State Fair. No word if fried Twinkies or key lime pie on a stick were on the concession menus. Texas won the '29 game, 21-0, at Fair Park Stadium. The teams didn't play in 1920 and 1921 and from 1924-28 because of a Missouri Valley Conference rule against playing non-league opponents at neutral sites. OU had left the Southwest Conference to become a member of the MVC in Dec. 1919.

Nov. 18, 1922: Texas 32, Oklahoma 7 (at Boyd Field, Norman)

Hero: Bobby Robertson threw a six-yard TD pass to tackle Joe Ward. Robertson also caught a 15-yard pass from Oscar Eckhart and added an eight-yard scoring run

Notable: For the first time, the game was broadcast on radio, on WFAA in Dallas. The game was tied 7-7 at halftime, but Texas scored 25 unanswered points to win going away.

Nov. 17, 1923: Texas 26, Oklahoma 14

Heroes: Texas held Oklahoma to one first down in the first half.

Notable: Down 26-0, Oklahoma drove to the Texas six and fumbled.

Oct. 19, 1929: Texas 21, Oklahoma 0 (at Fair Park Stadium)

Hero: Dexter Shelley scored Texas' first touchdown after his fumble recovery gave Texas the ball at the OU 36.

Notable: The first half was scoreless in the first meeting of schools since 1923. Texas had dropped Oklahoma in favor of playing Vanderbilt at the State Fair, but this game was the first in a 10-year contract. The tradition of revelry on Commerce Street in Dallas started.
