Red River Rivalry: The '30sTexas: 6 wins, Oklahoma: 3 wins, 1 tie Compiled by DallasNews.com Bohn Hillard was one of Texas' many heroes of the '30s. In the 1932 game, a 17-10 Longhorns win, Hillard rushed for 136 yards, ran a punt back 94 yards for the winning score and returned four other punts for 29, 27, 24 and 22 yards. In 1933, OU won, 9-0, its first win in the series since 1919.
Oct. 18, 1930: Texas 17, Oklahoma 7
Hero: Ernie Koy scored Texas' first touchdown from a yard on the first play of the fourth quarter, and Claude "Ox" Blanton nailed a 20-yard field goal to give Texas the lead for good. Notable: Trailing 7-0, Texas reeled off 17 fourth-quarter points to come from behind. Texas dominated, piling up 21 first downs to Oklahoma's four. The Longhorns had been considered underdogs.
Oct. 17, 1931: Texas 3, Oklahoma 0
Hero: Claude "Ox" Blanton came off the bench to hit a 16-yard field goal for the game's only points. It looked as though Texas would score a touchdown on that series, but Ernie Koy tripped over a teammate at the 4-yard line and the Longhorns had to settle for the field goal. Notable: Oklahoma managed only two first downs. The Sooners played without captain Guy Warren, who was declared scholastically ineligible on the eve of the game. On the next-to-last play of the first half, Texas had a touchdown run by Wilson Elkins called back by a holding penalty.
Oct. 15, 1932: Texas 17, Oklahoma 10
Hero: Texas' Bohn Hilliard ran for 136 yards and took a punt back 94 yards for the winning score. It was Hilliard's second touchdown of the game. He also was on the receiving end of a 23-yard "double basket" pass play. Notable: In addition to his 94-yard return, Hilliard returned punts of 29, 27, 24 and 22 yards to help Texas to its sixth straight series win. The estimated attendance at Fair Park Stadium was 23,000.
Oct. 14, 1933: Oklahoma 9, Texas 0
Hero: Jeff Coker blocked a punt that was recovered by Owen Cason at the Texas 8-yard line to set up the lone touchdown in a game played under "leaden" skies. Sooners quarterback Bob Dunlap took it in from the 5 three plays later. Notable: Bohn Hilliard missed the game because of injuries suffered the previous week against Nebraska. OU's first points came on a safety when reserve center Carlos Bell, subbing for Texas captain Bill Smith, snapped the ball over the head of punter Jimmy Hadlock. It was Oklahoma's first win in the series since 1919.
Oct. 13, 1934: Texas 19, Oklahoma 0
Hero: Irvin Gilbreath caught a 27-yard pass from Bohn Hilliard, then ran for two more scores to provide all the offense Texas would need. Notable: Texas lost Hilliard in the second quarter when he broke two ribs making a diving tackle. It was the first Texas-OU game for UT coach Jack Chevigny, a Knute Rockne disciple. The game was played in a downpour in front of 20,000. Texas' Bill Pitzer and OU's Buster Baebel were tossed after fighting late in the game.
Oct. 12, 1935: Texas 12, Oklahoma 7
Hero: Irvin Gilbreath caught an 11-yard pass from Jud Atchison in the second quarter to help Texas overcome a 7-6 deficit. The teams played a scoreless second half. Notable: A disappointing crowd of 16,000 watched Texas get back on the winning track. The Longhorns were inside the OU 25 four times in the second half but did not score. Gilbreath, despite his heroics, dropped a sure touchdown pass on the Oklahoma 7 late in the game.
Oct. 10, 1936: Texas 6, Oklahoma 0
Heroes: Bill Pitzer hit Homer Tippen on a long scoring pass that glanced off the hands of two Oklahoma defenders early in the fourth quarter for the only points of the game. Notable: The Sooners got as close to the end zone as the Texas 6 but turned the ball over on downs. OU also missed a field goal after driving to the Texas 22 and fumbled at Texas' 20.
Oct. 9, 1937: Texas 7, Oklahoma 7 (tie)
Heroes: Woody Huddleston got Oklahoma on the board with a one-yard scoring run in the second quarter. Texas countered with a touchdown pass from Bullet Gray to Jud Atchison. Notable: OU's Al Corrotto dropped a sure touchdown pass in the third quarter with the score 7-7. Texas' touchdown was set up by a Sooners pass interference penalty at the 18.
Oct. 8, 1938: Oklahoma 13, Texas 0
Heroes: OU scored all of its points in the second quarter as Bob Seymour hit Bill Jennings with a fourth-down scoring pass. Notable: The win was just Oklahoma's second in 19 years against Texas. OU finished with a No. 4 Associated Press ranking and went to its first bowl (Orange, a 17-0 loss to Tennessee).
Oct. 14, 1939: Oklahoma 24, Texas 12
Heroes: Beryl Clark and Bob Seymour had a hand in OU's three touchdowns. Clark scored from a yard, and the two were part of a reverse and lateral for OU's second score.
