From Staff Reports

■ WR Felix Jones and Miles Austin handled the kickoff returns. One change from last year, new special teams coach Joe DeCamillis is working with one returner deep. The last few years the Cowboys would use two.

■ David Buehler has to do more than kick off to make the game day roster spot worth it. On Tuesday, he worked as a holder for Nick Folk, splitting time with P Mat McBriar.

■ Marc Colombo had a hole-opening block on LB Jason Williams that sprung Marion Barber during team running drills. NT Jay Ratliff disrupted a run with the threat of his quickness, leading to a poor Andre Gurode snap. And later Colombo and Ratliff would get into the first big fight of camp.

■ RB Tashard Choice has good vision, but he missed a hole on a pull to the left, cutting back into traffic allowing the safety to make the tackle. He left a few yards on the field with that carry.

■ Tony Romo had an excellent day with the out route Tuesday. On the first play of team drills, he mixed the right amount of float with the right amount of speed to get a pass over LB DeMarcus Ware to Roy Williams. Later he did the same to LB Brandon Williams on a pass to Patrick Crayton.

■ WR Miles Austin was on the receiving end of three straight Romo passes in seven-on-seven drills, mixing in a touchdown on a deep in route between CB Mike Jenkins and LB Bobby Carpenter .

■ Romo was 10-of-15 in seven-on-even and team drills. Backup Jon Kitna went 13-for-14 in the drills, hitting rookie WR Kevin Ogletree with a touchdown. His only miss was a deep ball to Mike Jefferson.

■ LB Keith Brooking batted away a pass from QB Stephen McGee to Scott Chandler. McGee has to work on getting rid of the ball faster. He took all of the third team reps for the first time in camp with Rudy Carpenter battling a thumb injury.

■ Rookie WR Manuel Johnson made a nice grab on a deep ball from Kitna, outrunning CB Courtney Brown, much to the crowd's delight.

Two-minute drill: DE Igor Olshansky, ex-business owner

You used to have a business. What was the name of it, and what happened to it?

It was Igor SHS (Super Human Strength). A lot of people came up to me and wanted to start a little supplement company with me, so I did. There wasn't much invested in it from me, and there wasn't that much work on my part. But I tried out the products and it was kind of fun. The person that was running it unfortunately passed away in a bicycle accident. After that, everything was just kind of dismantled.

Sorry about your friend. Are you too busy with football to operate a business on the side?

Absolutely by myself. If you want a business to be run correctly, you really have to be a part of it and be involved in all the transactions.

By being involved in it, did it pique your interest in any business aspirations after you get done playing football?

Sure. I definitely want to do business after I'm done playing football. Right now, I have to focus on being a Dallas Cowboy and helping this team and this defense, and everything else will take care of itself.

What's the biggest lesson you learned during your time in the business world?

You've got to make sure you have a good product. Business is tough. I didn't put any money in it, and I really didn't put any effort in it, but nothing ever came out.

MIA: Isaiah Stanback

Isaiah Stanback's bid for a spot on this roster is off to a slow start.

The receiver missed his seventh consecutive practice Tuesday with a sore hamstring and his status for Wednesday's practices is undetermined.

Stanback's brief career with the Cowboys has been plagued by injuries.

"I think the thing with him is the mental part," Phillips said. "He can't fall into, 'this is always happening to me,' and that kind of thing.

"And I've seen it happen before. I've seen guys injured a whole lot and stay injured and I've seen guys injured and all of a sudden they get going and they're never hurt again.

"Hopefully, he'll be the latter."

Quote of the day

“I’m glad I’m not going to do that again. I can tell you, I didn’t look good in that wet suit.”

Secondary coach Dave Campo, who wore a wet suit at Sea World for the Hard Knocks cameras the last time he was in San Antonio with the Cowboys.
