Dallas Cowboys-Chiefs: How they match up

WHEN THE COWBOYS RUN

When the Chiefs have faced teams committed to the run, they allowed 198 yards to Baltimore and 156 yards to the Giants. The Cowboys, No. 3 in rushing, have to be committed to it against the No. 22-ranked run defense. Dallas should be helped by a healthier Marion Barber.

WHEN THE COWBOYS PASS

The Chiefs cannot generate a pass rush without bringing extra defenders, and the Cowboys have not been effective vs. the blitz. Confounding the issue could be Roy Williams' rib injury, but the Cowboys should have enough to end Romo's streak of games without a TD pass at two.

WHEN THE CHIEFS RUN

Larry Johnson is averaging only 2.6 yards per carry and has a long of 15. Because of the poor passing game, teams are stacking up against Johnson, who needs 244 yards to become KC's all-time leading rusher. Dallas has performed better against the run, but Johnson is still a threat.

WHEN THE CHIEFS PASS

Matt Cassel is averaging 5.15 yards per attempt because he has been sacked 10 times. He simply does not have time to get the ball to his playmaker, Dwayne Bowe, and the Chiefs do not have other outside threats. Cowboys opponents are completing 64.8 percent of their throws.

SPECIAL TEAMS

Mat McBriar has put 11 of his 19 punts inside the opponent's 20. The Chiefs' coverage units have been solid, but the return game has been up and down. The Cowboys must be mistake-free with this group in a game they should win.

INTANGIBLES

Historically, Arrowhead Stadium is among the toughest NFL venues, but the Chiefs have lost eight straight at home. But it's Alumni Weekend, where UT-ex Priest Holmes will be honored, Nick Lowery will be added to the Chiefs Hall of Fame, and the Super Bowl IV team will be recognized.
