Olympic champ Nastia Liukin honored with parade in Parker

Fans and supporters wave as Olympic gold medal winner Nastia Liukin drives by in a pink car during a parade in her honor August 30, 2008 in her native Parker. The parade, which began shortly after 9 a.m. followed a route along Parker Road, east of Plano. Thousands of people watched the parade, which included scores of floats and performers.

The 18-year-old gymnast waved to the crowd while riding on the back of a pink Saab convertible. Liukin won five medals at the Olympics in Beijing, including gold in the all-around competition.

Olympic gymnast Nastia Liukin lands on Wheaties cereal box
The 18-year-old Parker resident joins Olympic decathlon gold-medalist Bryan Clay as the new faces for Wheaties, said Greg Zimprich, a General Mills spokesman. The new designs on the "Breakfast of Champions" boxes will be available starting in September.

Liukin takes silver in uneven bars despite even score
A headache-inducing tiebreaker determined Monday that China's He Kexin was the gold medalist on the uneven bars. Never mind that Nastia Liukin scored the same as He, 16.725. The Texan took home the silver, her fourth medal of the Beijing Games.
