Dirk Nowitzki's attorney released a statement on Thursday voicing doubt about Cristal Taylor's claim that she is pregnant with Nowitzki's child. In a statement released to ESPN.com, Robert Hart said that in the "remote" chance Taylor's claim is true, Nowitzki will do everything possible to "ensure the health of the child." Hart pointed skepticism in particular about Taylor's statement to The Dallas Morning News that she did not learn of her pregnancy until she was twice tested at Dallas County jail following her May 6 arrest at Nowitzki's home. "We have been told that she was not administered a pregnancy test [in Dallas County Jail]," Hart said in the statement. Nowitzki left Dallas for Germany on Thursday afternoon, the Mavericks said. He has not commented since Taylor told The News that she is about 4½ weeks pregnant, was engaged to Nowitzki and had lived with him for a year and a half. "In fact, we found it strange that a friend of hers was at Dirk's house right after the arrest telling anyone who would listen that she was pregnant," Hart said in the statement. "As with all things coming from this woman's mouth, we are highly skeptical. "If in the remote instance there is any validity to this woman's claim of pregnancy, Dirk will do whatever can be done to ensure the well being of the child." Last Wednesday, Taylor was transferred to the Jefferson County Correctional facility in Beaumont, where she was processed as Crista Ann Taylor. She told The News she was "pregnant and alone and broke" during a Monday night phone call from jail. The News did not publish her comments until after a Tuesday phone conversation with one of Taylor's attorneys, St. Louis-based Amy Gervich. Gervich said she was not aware that her client had spoken to The News . Told Taylor had claimed she was carrying Nowitzki's child, Gervich replied, "Oh, OK. That's OK." Privacy laws prevent officials from releasing medical records. Parkland Hospital and Dallas County jail officials told The News that pregnancy tests are not automatically given to prisoners, though they sometimes are administered if the prisoner's statements or pre-existing conditions warrant it.
