State gives grant to Meals on Wheels
12:16 PM CST on Tuesday, January 15, 2008
A statewide grant program is providing some much needed financial relief to one Travis County organization.
State Agriculture Commissioner Todd Staples, along with State Senator Kirk Watson and State Representative Waren Chisum, announced Tuesday the creation of the Texans Feeding Texans Home Delivered Meal grant program.
It's the result of House Bill 407, which passed during the last legislative session.
Travis County Meals on Wheels received a $1.4 million grant to help the elderly and homebound in Central Texas. That money means an additional 200,000 meals can be prepared and delivered to those who need them.
The Texas Agriculture Department will award close to 100 more grants to home delivered meal providers across the state this year.
