City to crackdown on First Thursday violations
06:37 PM CST on Thursday, February 7, 2008
Complaints about the South Congress arts festival, First Thursday, have led to an enforcement crackdown.
Thursday night, staff from police, fire and code enforcement will talk to businesses and vendors along South Congress.
They say their primary goal is continue to inform people about which permits are required and explain the city's rules.
About six months ago, some neighbors began complaining about the excessive noise from First Thursday. Complaints also came in about businesses operating without proper permits and concerns about parking.
The city says it just wants everyone at First Thursday to follow the rules.
"We're not going out there right now and enforcing every ordinance because we know it's going to take awhile for people to get compliant," said Don Smith, AFD, asst. fire marshal.
Authorities also told KVUE if they see a glaring violation, they will write a ticket.
