Business busted for trademark counterfeiting

Police are looking for a man accused of selling counterfeit goods at his Austin business.
Police busted the business operating out of the building at 7901 Cameron Road for selling fake merchandise.
Chanel, Christian Dior, Coach, Lacoste, Louis Vuitton, Nike and Polo, police seized almost $13,000 worth of counterfeit goods.
"A lot of these shoes, just by the feel of them you knew they weren't real," said Detective Ray Brown, Austin Police Department.
Police say the store, called "23 Styles" operated by 27 year old "Tyler Lee Jones," looked like a normal store, with Nike shoes being the most popular item for sale.
"He had some shirts, polo shirts, some handbags and pants that were also counterfeit," said Brown.
Police say Jones posted an add for his store online at www.craigslist.com.
That's how an independent investigator found him and his business and told Austin Police.
"If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is," said Joel Voyles, owner of Investigation Servies Company in Fort Worth. He represents a majority of the trademark holders. "We act as their investigative arm for Texas, basically."
He looks for fakes, and works with police to bust the seller.
According to the International Anti-Counterfeiting Coalition, counterfeiting is a $600 billion a year problem. And research shows this money often supports organized crime, drug trafficking, child labor and terrorist activity.
Many times, people don't know they're buying a fake. But sometimes, they do.
"I believe the public, if they knew, that buying this counterfeit 'whatever' may be funding terroristic activity wouldn't do it," said Voyles.
Austin shoppers say sticking with the name brand store is the safest bet.
"Generally, I just go to the shop itself," said shopper Elizabeth Cox.
Police warn buyers that a deal too good to be true most often means the product is either counterfeit or stolen... And it's not safe to not know where your money's going.
If you know where Jones is, call police.
