Statue honors Texas's Vietnam veterans
06:20 PM CDT on Saturday, April 19, 2008
A new monument was dedicated to those who fought in Vietnam at the Texas State Cemetery on Saturday.
Dignitaries like Governor Rick Perry, former prisoners of war, and others spoke about their experiences in Vietnam.
They also remembered the more than 3,100 Texans who left the Lone Star State to serve halfway around the world and did not come back.
The pomp and circumstance was a startling and welcome contrast to how many of these vets say they were treated when they first came home.
The $50,000 memorial was mostly funded by donation from private citizens and groups.
