Edward Eberle, 51, was taken into custody after police found him at the Wal-Mart at 9300 South Interstate 35 with the gun and an "unreasonable amount of ammunition."
There were no reports of injuries.
According to the arrest affidavit, Eberle's wife called police after she found a note he wrote claiming to have chosen a life in prison. She told investigators Eberle used to work at the Wal-Mart but had been fired in March 2008. Investigators say he left a similar note for his sister. Police say he even sent her a text message saying, "Turn yer tv's on!"
Investigators believe he planned to commit an act of violence at the Wal-Mart, according to the affidavit. He is charged with making a terroristic threat and unlawfully carrying a weapon on a premise licensed to sell alcohol.
