Limo driver shot in carjacking
09:28 PM CDT on Monday, May 5, 2008
A limo driver was shot overnight in an apparent carjacking attempt, Austin police said Monday.
It happened just before 3 a.m. Police say a limo driver called 9-1-1 to report a carjacking.
Officers say the car thieves dumped the driver, 55-year-old Alfred Adams, in the 4800 block of Interstate 35. Police say he was shot in the upper body.
Adams was rushed to Brackenridge Hospital where he underwent surgery. Officials said his condition is stable.
A short time later, the white stretch limo was found a few miles away near the intersection of I-35 and Stassney Lane.
Police have released a very broad description of the couple the driver told them is responsible for the crime.
"He picked up... a heavyset black male and a white female, and that's pretty much all the descriptors we have right now. He picked them up and the next thing we know he's down on the motor mile and he's been shot," said Detective James Mason, APD.
