Video released of Benson's arrest
10:34 PM CDT on Thursday, May 8, 2008
Video released Thursday captured the moments after Cedric Benson's arrest for boating while intoxicated shows the former Longhorn great in handcuffs and still wearing his swimming trunks.
Benson was arrested Saturday and charged with boating while intoxicated by lake police with the Lower Colorado River Authority.
Benson's attorney Sam Bassett says lake police conducted an inspection on Benson's boat at a section of Lake Travis called Devil's Cove.
But L.C.R.A. police say Benson became hostile during the arrest which is why they say they had to pepper spray him.
In the surveillance video from the Travis County Jail, Benson can still be seen wearing his swim trunks, he's barefoot and in handcuffs.
Benson's attorney says the ordeal has been an unwanted distraction for the Chicago Bears running back. Attorney Sam Bassett says he's certain his client will be vindicated of his charges.
Benson has a court date scheduled for May 19th.
