06:16 PM CDT on Friday, May 9, 2008
Pack your patience this weekend if you plan to travel Interstate 35.
The Texas Department of Transportation plans to shut down I-35's northbound and southbound lanes at FM 1327 southeast of Austin beginning at 9 p.m. Friday through 5 a.m. Monday.
Crews will be installing steel girders on a bridge for State Highway 45 Southeast.
According to TxDOT, southbound lanes will be pushed over to the access road at FM 1327 Friday night. Then Saturday, northbound traffic will be diverted to the access road.
“Once the main half of the structure is up over the southbound lanes, we will close off northbound IH-35 to hang the second half of the steel structure,” said Don Nyland, TxDOT engineer in a news release.
The crossover bridge at FM 1327 and some of the Main Street interchange in Buda will also be closed.
