Shane Flournoy, 32, is charged with having an improper relationship with a student.

Police say he began working in the dorms at the Texas State School for the Deaf in May and that it wasn't long before he saw a familiar face in a 15-year-old student.

"Mr. Flournoy knew this student from living in Houston," said Sgt. Richard Stresing.

Stresing said Flournoy and the student both lived in Houston years ago and participated in church and deaf community activities together. Now, both in Austin, he says they picked up where they left off.

"Inviting him over to his house, watching TV…" Stresing said.

Once behind the walls of Flournoy's South Austin apartment, investigators say the relationship turned sexual.

According to court documents, "while his wife was in the bedroom Flournoy offered the student $200 to see his privates." Flournoy told police on a separate occasion "he touched the student's privates." At one point, Flournoy says he paid the student up to $1,000.

The school says none of the alleged activity happened on campus and released a statement Monday,

"We have no reason to believe that Mr. Flournoy had an improper relationship with any other TSD student.... As we do for all employees, TSD conducted a check of Mr. Flournoy's criminal history when he was hired as a residential worker in May 2007. The criminal history report indicated that Mr. Flournoy had no prior criminal history of any nature including no convictions or arrests."

Police say there could be others in Houston.

"We are also working with the Houston Police Department to investigate other allegations," Stresing said.

APD victim service counselors are available for any student who may feel like they've been a victim.

If convicted, Flournoy could face up to 20 years in jail.
