Red light cameras will be turned on over the Memorial Day holiday.

Before the cameras start watching you, you will have a chance to watch a special message -- produced by the City of Austin -- on your TV about why the cameras will be turned on. The message behind this public service announcement is simple.

“There is no good excuse for running red lights,” states the voice on the city-made PSA.

Red-light camera enforcement will officially begin in Austin at the intersection of 11th and the northbound frontage road of Interstate 35.

“So we are starting with no warning period, it is actually starting and notices will be going out for real on May 23,” said Rebecca Stark, municipal court clerk.

The violation notice for the $75 civil fine will come in the mail, but you can pay the fine online. You can even see video of your violation by typing in a web link and entering your citation number. Some of those who drive through the 11th St. Intersection on a daily basis support the decision to put the camera there.

“I think it is wonderful, I think it is very much needed long over do,” said Delores Duffie.

The 11th Street location was one of two sites where the cameras were recently tested. City traffic engineers noted a drop in wrecks at the intersections and hope the trend will continue.

“We will be keeping stats on all of the intersections and if one is accomplishing its purpose and another that it is not, we will move it from one place to another,” said Stark.

The camera system is run by a company called Redflex. The city will pay up to $4,500 each month for each camera. A total of nine will eventually be turned on. The contract with Redflex is called "revenue neutral," which means if a camera only generates $75, that is all the company will get from the site. Everything over the $4,500 per site cap is split between the city and the state.

Here's a list of all the locations where red light cameras will be watching.

-- I-35 at 11th Street

--15th Street and MLK.

-- 2 cameras at MoPac and Wells Branch -- one in each direction.

-- 2 cameras at Lamar and Ben White.

-- MoPac and Highway 290.

-- Riverside Drive and Pleasant Valley Road.
