Residents lost power in parts of Bell County after a powerful storm system that blew through Central Texas Wednesday morning. The storms left a path of destruction, especially in the small town of Salado.

The winds were so strong that some trees were completely uprooted. Others blew onto roadways and had to be cut down and then pulled away. The winds also blew power lines over. Texas Department of Transportation officials say the wind damage was so extensive that they believe there may have been a slight tornado that blew through town. The system that hit Salado was the same one that sparked reported funnel clouds earlier in the morning near Marble Falls.

“I just thought it was a little log and I looked out the window and saw that it was a big tree and was like 'oh God,' said Ashley Palomo, Salado resident.

Some homes were lucky to escape the storm undamaged. The historical Robertson Home only had slight damage to a part of its roof. Another home just two blocks down was hit hard by a large tree in the backyard. The residents inside had to use buckets to collect the rain water that started pouring inside.

Businesses were also damaged. The local Dairy Queen restaurant lost its sign and Salado High School was ripped apart, too. Piles of bricks fell off the building. The school principal, Kay Matthews, says the damage inside is even worse and cancelled school for the day.

Some vehicles were also damaged and crushed by falling trees. Residents say they didn't realize how bad the storm was this morning until they saw the damage.

"We've been pretty fortunate I just thought it would blow over, jut like the wind and stuff like that, like it usually is, but never realized this much damage was going to happen," said Mary Mendez, Bell County resident.

Officials are trying to figure out how many, if any, tornados actually hit Salado Wednesday morning.

Salado is the same town that was hit in part by the devastating tornado that slammed nearby Jarrell in 1997.
