Power outages caused by Wednesday night's storms forced Austin ISD officials to close several campuses on Thursday.

The outages cancelled classes at Lee Elementary, Mathews Elementary, Pease Elementary, Barton Hills Elementary, Blackshear Elementary, Campbell Elementary, Govalle Elementary and Pecan Springs Elementary. Plus, the AISD Alternative Learning Center is also closed.

Norma Elementary classes started late at 10 a.m.

District officials announced some of the closings late after they discovered there wasn't enough electricity at some of the campuses, which could have affected health and safety.

The district says all AISD facilities will return to their normal schedules on Friday.
