Power slowly being restored
10:24 PM CDT on Friday, May 16, 2008
Most of the power is back on, but the damage from Thursday’s early morning record-setting hail storm will take a while to repair.
According to Austin Energy, about 250 customers remained without power in Austin as of 9:30 p.m. Friday.
Thirty hours after losing power, a sense of normalcy returns to Kim Keeper.
“It feels great,” said Keeper, a freelance reporter who works out of her home. “It’s good to get back to work.”
It was a similar situation a few blocks away at the Harris family home as the simple pleasures of electricity hummed back to life. If there was one good thing to come from the power outage, Elizabeth Harris says it brought the family closer together.
“We're working together as a team cleaning the yard up talking around candlelight,” she said.
The outages did not just affect homeowners, but businesses too. Trudy’s Restaurant on 30th Street had to get a generator.
“It’s huge. It’s one of our biggest weekends,” said Operations Manager Eric Pickly.
Crews restored power Friday afternoon just in time for the weekend crowds.
