UTPD aims to educate students about crisis situations
10:16 AM CDT on Tuesday, May 20, 2008
The University of Texas Monday unveiled a new program designed to deal with the possibility of an active shooter roaming on campus.
A new video on the UT Police Department's website -- "Shots Fired, When Lighting Strikes" -- tells students what they need to know. It features advice from former FBI agents.
The video uses an office setting to show ideas of how to get out of a situation, how to hide out or take out the shooter if needed.
The video also tells what police need to know.
"It tries to get people to walk through those darkest of days and be able to think through a plan beforehand," said Bob Harkins, associate vice president for campus safety and security.
UT police said the video would be shown during upcoming orientations.
Students, faculty and staff can see the video on UTPD's website.
