DPS to drivers: Slow down and stay sober on the roads
10:29 AM CDT on Thursday, May 22, 2008
Texas troopers Thursday asked all drivers to slow down and drive sober over the Memorial Day weekend.
Department of Public Safety officials say troopers will patrol the roads in full force, looking for drivers who speed, show signs of impairment and don't wear their seatbelts.
“Slow down, buckle up and drive sober, so you can have a more enjoyable weekend,” said Col. Thomas A. Davis Jr., director of the DPS, in a news release. “Voluntary compliance with the law is a better alternative than receiving a ticket or being arrested.”
Troopers say drunk drivers will be arrested and drivers who have children under the age of 15 will face state jail felony charges.
Texas troopers are also in the middle of the Click it or Ticket campaign, which enforces seatbelt laws. Drivers who break safety belt laws will receive a ticket.
