Cedar Park woman among those killed in Huntsville chopper crash
04:38 PM CDT on Monday, June 9, 2008
A Cedar Park paramedic was one of four people killed when a medical helicopter crashed Sunday morning near Huntsville.
The PHI medical chopper went down in a heavily wooded area moments after takeoff from a Huntsville hospital.
The patient, the pilot, a flight nurse and Flight Paramedic Stephanie Waters of Cedar Park were killed in the crash.
Waters' death hits home especially hard since her husband, Christopher, is a paramedic with Austin Travis County EMS.
"Stephanie Waters, especially -- she was the medic on board -- because her husband works here with us. He's also a paramedic, and he's part of our EMS family, so of course that really hits home really hard for us," said Johnnie Hall, Austin Travis Co. EMS.
The wreckage was found about 10 miles from where the helicopter took off.
Earlier in the day, the flight crew helped saved a 2-year-old from drowning in a swimming pool.
