Obstacle course aims to put more Austin residents on bikes
11:26 AM CDT on Monday, June 29, 2009
Austinites learned an important lesson over the weekend with a lot of built-in fun.
Some 1,500 cyclists took part in the New Belgium Urban Assault Ride on Sunday morning. It's a citywide obstacle course, involving everything from big wheels to laundry baskets.
"I learned to take... alternate routes -- the hike and bike route and Shoal Creek Trail -- to stay off the roads and away from cars stuff like that. You know really safe riding there," said Trent Shephard, cyclist.
The ride tries to get more cars off the roads by showing Austinites it's cheap, easy, healthy and fun to bike around town.
